Radical change in ChatGPT starting today: OpenAI integrates ads in two modalities!

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, responded swiftly last week to Anthropic after the company made an ad during the Super Bowl criticizing ChatGPT’s new monetization scheme. The launch of this model begins today.

According to a CNBC report, OpenAI plans to start the advertising testing phase in ChatGPT starting today.

Los advertisements, which will be “easily identifiable”will be displayed in a separate section within the chat interface, as OpenAI announced a month ago.

A source close to the situation told CNBC, according to The Vergethat OpenAI “anticipates that ads will make up less than half of your income in the future«.

ChatGPT will present advertising to users who are using the app for free or through the Go subscription which was launched in November in Spain.

The company assures that it will “keep your interactions with ChatGPT private from advertisers,” although it also mentions that ads will be “optimized based on what is most useful to you.”

OpenAI maintains that advertisers will not influence the answers ChatGPT provides in this new experience that will revolutionize the use of today’s most popular AI chatbot.

In addition to the announcements, in an internal memo seen by CNBC, Altman informed employees that OpenAI plans release updated AI model this week.

This comes just a week after the launch of a more advanced version of its AI programming agent, Codex, which is currently available exclusively on Mac.

In his statement, Altman expressed an unexpected moment of reflection, expressing the sadness he felt when he saw that AI could generate better ideas than his.

Altman also took the opportunity to announce that ChatGPT had once again managed to exceed 10% monthly growth.

This news comes on the heels of Google’s announcement last week and Gemini’s reported 750 million monthly users.

Now we just have to wait for the first reports from users who see the ads appear both in the web version and on Windows, Mac or mobile devices.

This marks a radical change in an experience that until now had been more restricted due to subscription, but which will now be enriched with ads that will relate to the content of the conversation that we have with ChatGPT.

Although the advertisements are located on a side paneltheir presence can mark a before and after in conversations about personal or sensitive topics, offering business services at perhaps inopportune moments.

In fact, Sam Altman’s quick response to Claude was motivated because Anthropic’s Super Bowl ad clearly demonstrated how this change could affect users.
