Trump’s former Republican allies call for his removal through the 25th Amendment after threats to Iran

Former staunch allies of the American president, Donald Trumpasked this Tuesday for the president’s dismissal considering that is not fit to continue in office after his recent threats of end “an entire civilization”, hours before the deadline for his ultimatum to Iran expired, from which an agreement for a temporary ceasefire finally resulted.

Another former follower of the president, the controversial commentator Alex Jonesalso mentioned the application of the constitutional provision against the New Yorker.

Jones, one of the best-known conspiracy theorists and founder of the Infowars platform, asked lawyer Robert Barnes on his podcast: “How do we apply the 25th Amendment against him (Trump)?”

“The problem is that the support of two-thirds of the House (of Representatives, the national Lower House) is required; it is necessary for those two-thirds to act against Trump,” responded Barnes, who admitted that this procedure is more complicated than an impeachment or impeachment.

The fourth section of this Amendment, passed in 1967, establishes a mechanism by which the vice president, along with the majority of Cabinet members, can declare that the president is ““incapacitated to exercise the powers and duties of his position.”

This declaration must subsequently be confirmed by two-thirds of both houses of Congress.

Asked this Monday about criticism about his state of mental health during the war launched by the US and Israel against Iran, Trump denied having heard anything about it.

The Republican’s rhetoric has also unleashed a wave of condemnation among the Democratic opposition.

Representative Ilham Omar, Democrat of Minnesota, a well-known Trump detractor, reacted by saying that “this is unacceptable” and called for: “Invoke the 25th Amendment. Impeachment. Impeachment. This deranged lunatic must be removed from office.”

For his part, the Democratic minority leader in the House, Hakeem Jeffries, announced that his caucus will push for a new vote on a resolution aimed at limiting the use of military force in Iran. “We just need one or two additional Republicans, and I think we’re on track to get there,” he said.
