Trump claims that the US attacked and seized an Iranian ship that “tried to circumvent” the naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz

He US President Donald Trumpstated this Sunday that the US Navy attacked and seized an Iranian-flagged cargo ship that attempted to cross the Naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

“Today, an Iranian-flagged cargo ship called Touska, nearly 900 feet long and weighing the same as an aircraft carrier, attempted to circumvent our naval blockade, and it didn’t turn out well,” Trump said in a message on Truth Social.

According to the president, the Iranian crew “refused to listen”, so the ship was attacked in the waters of the Gulf of Oman, and is currently “in the custody” of the US Navy.

The vessel has sanctions from the US Treasury “due to its previous history of illegal activities.”

The US president added that a US Navy destroyer stopped it in its tracks “opening a hole in the engine room”, and that they are currently verifying the cargo it was transporting.

The Strait of Hormuz, a key artery through which 20% of the world’s crude oil transited, remains blocked 50 days after the start of the US and Israeli attacks against Iran.

Iran regained “strict control” of Hormuz on Saturday, just one day after announcing its reopening, and in the last few hours, the Revolutionary Guard has forced back two oil tankers flying the flags of Botswana and Angola.

In parallel to the Iranian blockade, the United States implements a naval siege directed specifically against Tehran to prevent the export and import of supplies.
