Díaz-Canel thanks AMLO for his support for Cuba after a message on networks

The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, responded this Sunday to the message of support that former Mexican president Andrés Manuel López Obrador published a day earlier on social networks, where he defended the sovereignty of the Caribbean country and called to express solidarity with the Cuban people.

Through social network X, the Cuban president publicly thanked the former Mexican president for the gesture and highlighted the historical relationship between both countries.

“Thank you, dear brother @lopezobrador_. On behalf of #Cuba, I will not tire of thanking #Mexico for its generous solidarity and accompaniment to the heroic resistance of the Cuban people. And we will never forget your permanent and decisive support for strengthening that endearing friendship,” he wrote.

AMLO REAPEARS ON NETWORKS IN 2026

The statement came after Andrés Manuel López Obrador reappeared on social networks – for the second time so far in 2026 – despite the fact that at the end of his presidential term he reiterated that he would retire from public life.

In his message, the former Mexican president expressed his support for Cuba’s sovereignty and called on citizens to financially support the island to contribute to the purchase of food, medicine and other supplies.

“I invite everyone to deposit in the Banorte account 1358451779 of the civil association Humanity with Latin America… to buy food, medicine, oil and gasoline, and help the Cuban people. Let everyone contribute what they can!” he wrote.

It should be remembered that on January 3 of this year the former president also used his X account to speak out on international issues, rejecting the intervention of the United States government in Venezuela. In addition, on November 30, 2025, he presented his book Thank you!, where he addresses his vision of government and politics in Mexico.

BACKUP MESSAGES FROM MEXICO

The statement was also supported by the Cuban ambassador to Mexico, Eugenio Martínez Enríque. Who thanked the gesture of the former Mexican president and the support of the Mexican people.

“Thank you President. The Cuban people who admire you feel accompanied by the Mexican brothers and sisters who have confirmed that they are worthy and just in the face of the crime that the United States commits against Cuba. #CubaNotEstaSola,” he expressed.
