Two-ton missiles and regional attacks: conflict between Iran, the US and Israel escalates

The conflict in the Middle East escalated again after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced the use of missiles with warheads of up to two tons in a new phase of its offensive against Israel and US military targets in the region.

According to the IRGC itself, the 43rd wave of the operation called “True Promise 4” included attacks targeting strategic positions, including the fifth US Navy base in Bahrain, as well as targets in Israeli territory.

According to the Iranian statement, the targets included “the heart of Tel Aviv”, northern Israel and the city of Eilat, marking an expansion of the scope of the attacks within the conflict.

DRONE ATTACK LEAVES SOLDIERS INJURED

The escalation has also had repercussions in other countries in the region. A drone attack hit a military base in Makhmour, in northern Iraq, a facility operated jointly between French forces and Peshmerga fighters from the autonomous region of Kurdistan.

Military authorities reported that at least six French soldiers were wounded in the attack.

Hours later, the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, confirmed that one of the soldiers deployed in the region died after an attack that occurred near Erbil, while other troops were injured.

TRUMP DECLARES “VICTORY” FOR THE USA

In the midst of the military tension, the president of the United States, Donald Trump, assured that his country has managed to prevail in the conflict after eleven days of confrontations.

“We have won. In the first hour everything was over,” said the president during a public event in the state of Kentucky, referring to military operations against Iran.

The statements contrast with reports of ongoing attacks and persistent military activity in different parts of the Middle East.

US REPORTS AIRCRAFT CASUALTIES AND LOSS

The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed the loss of a KC-135 tanker aircraft in Iraqi airspace, an incident in which four US service members died.

According to the official report, the incident “was not due to enemy fire or friendly fire,” although no further details have been revealed about the causes of the accident.

In parallel, the US military command claimed to have destroyed several Iranian aircraft as part of the joint offensive it has maintained with Israel against Iranian targets since February 28.

DIPLOMACY AND ENERGY CRISIS ON THE HORIZON

Despite the military intensification, some diplomatic voices point to an eventual negotiated solution. The Minister of State of the United Arab Emirates and former ambassador to the UN, Lana Nusseibeh, pointed out that the conflict could lead to a political solution.

“Ultimately there will be a diplomatic solution, but there must be a tipping point, and President Trump will get us there in due time,” he declared.

Meanwhile, fears of a closure of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran have sparked concern in energy markets, with a spike in oil prices and warnings of a possible global energy crisis.

The US Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, minimized the risk by pointing out that Washington already faces this scenario and that “there is nothing to worry about.”
