Outdoor Healthcare (AABAT)

The AABAT is excited to announce that the “Nature & Health – Research, Practice and Policy Symposium 2020” has been adapted to an online format, and is set to showcase health modalities that are good for both people and natural environments.

These events are designed to be of interest to cross-disciplinary practitioners, researchers and policy makers interested in using the known benefits of nature for health.

Instead of a 2-day event, the program has been spread over 5 online Symposium events. Each of the 5 events will present research and practice, and illustrate outdoor healthcare in action.

Through a series of invited guest speakers and Q&A sessions, we will examine evidence-informed nature-based interventions, and discuss the merits of forming a coalition of Outdoor Healthcare providers.

The program consists of 4 weekly 90min webinars and 1 whole-day event:

  1. Tue 2nd June (90min webinar) 12-1.30pm AEST
  2. Tue 9th June (90min webinar) 7:30am-9am AEST
  3. Tues 16th June (90min webinar) 12-1.30pm AEST
  4. Tue 23rd June (90min webinar) 7:30am-9am AEST
  5. Fri 26th June (whole-day Symposium) 9.30am-4.30pm AEST.

The weekly webinars will present examples of evidence-informed nature-based health interventions in action. Lead-in presentations are designed to be experiential in nature, and nourishing for attendees.

The whole-day Symposium will showcase the work of guest speakers who draw links between human and environmental health and the importance of Indigenous approaches, within a framework of ‘Nature for health’. The day will involve a series of high-level presentations, facilitated break-out groups and robust Q&A sessions.

This Symposium is the first of its kind to be hosted by AABAT. The original event was to take place in Tasmania, and timed to precede AABAT’s annual National Forum. This online Symposium replaces the original Symposium, but will lead to further events, including an in-person event in November ahead of AABAT’s postponed National Forum.

Symposium partners have been working with AABAT to recruit representatives from the breadth of nature-based health interventions. We look forward to sharing this exciting research and practice with you, and warmly invite your contribution to the event.

Host: Outdoor Healthcare

Outdoor Healthcare is being trialled as a term to encompass the range of evidence-informed health interventions that mobilise ‘human contact with nature’ as an intentional setting, method or mechanism to support human health, wellbeing and healing.
