Funding of up to $10,000 is available to community groups interested in protecting our region’s drinking water catchments, as part of the annual Water for Life community grants program.

Minister for Natural Resources, Mines and Energy Dr Anthony Lynham said Seqwater was looking for projects that increase public water education and involve people in caring for their waterways.

Applications close on 4 May 2018, with projects to be delivered between 1 July 2018 and 30 June 2019.

In 2017, a total of 12 community groups across South East Queensland received a share of $62,500 to fund their new or existing project last year.

“The funding enables local community groups and organisations to work in partnership with Seqwater to deliver significant local projects that promote water education and awareness,” Dr Lynham said.

“I encourage community organisations across South East Queensland to get involved.

“The grants program is about supporting community projects that ultimately benefit our waterways and future water supply.

“For us, ‘water for life’ is more than just delivering a safe, secure and reliable water supply – it’s also about creating partnerships with the community we serve to build a sustainable water future.’’

Seqwater acting Chief Executive Officer Dan Spiller said: “We’re looking for community partners with projects that focus on community involvement or educating young people in improving catchment health, the environment and the quality of source water.’’

Grants will be determined by a selection panel from across Seqwater so that applications can be assessed from all perspectives – community, environment, water supply and safety.

Applications must outline support of one or more of the following criteria within the theme of Water for Life:

• Educate and engage young people about the water cycle, value of water, where their water comes from and water wise messaging through excursions to Seqwater dams and catchments.
• Build community understanding of the water cycle, value of water as a precious resource, understanding of how water is managed and Seqwater’s role through targeted engagement activities.
