MEXICO.— Just a few days ago the “Mario Day” or “Mario Day” (March 10) but this year the celebration has been “marred” by the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE), since it stated that the name of the emblematic Nintendo character it is poorly written in Spanish language.
Yes, surprisingly The RAE “joined” the celebration of “Mario Day” this past March 10, 2026, through a “contribution”. But this immediately generated the displeasure of the fans, since more than providing “new” about the character, it made a correction which several considered “unnecessary” and even out of place.
Likewise, the Royal Spanish Academy was very punctual in revealing what the correct way to write “Super Mario”which would not be exactly as it has always been written.

The RAE says that “Super Mario” is misspelled, how should it be?
It was through social networks and on the occasion of the “Mario’s Day” that the RAE explained that the correct way in español to refer to the famous plumber It’s “Supermario” and not “Super Mario”.
And according to the rules of Spanish, the correct thing would be to write “Super Mario” in a single word, since the prefix “super” should be joined to the proper noun, as is the case with Super López.
Therefore, “Super Mario” as it is traditionally written, would be incorrect from the point of view grammatical view in Spanish.
🎮 In the #SuperMarioDaywe remember that, although in general prefixes are hyphenated to a word that begins with a capital letter, such as a proper name (“pro-Kant”), when a new proper name is created with this combination, everything is written together and with the capital letter in the… pic.twitter.com/uMZrlkVMQ3

But even though the RAE they have an argument linguistically logical, after sharing this orthographic curiosity within the framework of the “Mario Day”fans were against this clarification.
Likewise, they pointed out that “Super Mario” is a trademarkhence does not have because follow strictly the linguistic rules. Many others also mentioned that the character is called ‘Mario’ and that “Super Mario” is the name of the franchise and video games.
Some others were quick to point out that The RAE made reference to the holiday like “Super Mario Day and not “Mar10 Day” so at the beginning the Royal Spanish Academy made a mistake when incorrectly mentioning the celebration.
After this curious debate on specialized portal networks such as: Indigo geek They chose to highlight that the next release of the franchise, which will be movie premiere “Super Mario Galaxy”which will arrive in theaters in Mexico April 1 of 2026.
