In September of the previous year, Nothing captured the attention of many in the technology space con Essential, a new proposal based on artificial intelligence that, among other features, offered a complete operating system and the novel idea of developing applications through ‘vibe coding’.
Recently, this system has started its beta phase. We are referring to Nothing Essential Apps, applications completely created on the Essential platform that work simply with a text box in the style chatbot.
Nothing’s vision is pretty straightforward. It aims to enable the creation of applications – which for now are nothing more than widgets— designed specifically for each user, without the need to have programming knowledge. All this, simply by requesting it from the AI.
Creating applications using vibe coding
First, it is essential to understand: what is the vibe coding? This is an emerging technique with the development of generative artificial intelligence, which allows the creation of apps or systems through AI.
This approach allows anyone, without prior programming knowledge, to design everything from games to applications using a chatbot of artificial intelligence. It is under this premise that Nothing Essential Apps operate.
Create apps shaped exactly around your specific needs and context.
That’s what Essential Apps are.
You describe what you need. AI builds it. It appears on your phone’s home screen, ready to use.
One billion apps for one billion people.

Through the playground.nothing.tech site, any user can design an app adapted to their needs. Instead of relying on applications developed by third parties, the user creates them with the help of AI.
The system was initially presented in September of last year with a very restricted alpha version and used internally by the Nothing community. Now, the platform has advanced to the beta phase.
The app builder, built into Playground, includes a style text box. chatbot. Using simple language, we can ask the AI to generate an application that we can then use on our mobile phone.
It is also possible to edit specific aspects of these applications keeping them stable and reliable. By modifying these apps, they do not restart, but they are updated. It will not be necessary to constantly create new ones.
In essence, the system allows create an app with a basic description and add it directly to your home screen for immediate use. However, for now, they are not complete applications; son widgets.
All the functionality of these elements of software It is limited to the home screen. That is, we interact with a widget without having to open an application.
The creation process is purely vibe coding. We indicate to the chatbot the type of application we want, and the system returns the widget to customize it according to our preferences. Nothing describes these Essential Apps like small personal tools.
According to Nothing, these tools will remain visible and update automatically, adapting to the context. At least that is the proposal that supports this method of creating applications.
At the moment, this entire platform is in beta phase. Nothing warns that ‘apps’ created this way may be incomplete or not function properly. It remains to be seen how it will evolve towards its final launch in the coming months.
To use Essential Apps, you only need a Nothing Phone (3) and register for the beta through Nothing Playground. Nothing has already announced that more devices will be added to the list.
