Google Maps takes another step towards intelligent navigation with the addition of Gemini, its artificial intelligence assistant, now available for pedestrians and cyclists. This new feature allows users to get information, recommendations and assistance in real time using voice commands, without having to touch the phone.
Until now, Gemini primarily functioned as support while driving, acting as a virtual co-pilot. However, Google announced that this technology can now be used while walking or cycling, thus expanding the safe and personalized browsing experience.
GEMINI ON GOOGLE MAPS: REAL-TIME HELP FOR WALKING OR BIKING
Users exploring a city on foot will be able to interact with Gemini directly from Google Maps, asking questions such as:
- “Google, what neighborhood am I in?”
- “What are the highest rated restaurants near here?”
Gemini will analyze the route, location and Maps usage history to offer relevant recommendations, making it easier to explore unknown areas and improving the tourist or everyday experience.
NAVIGATION FOR CYCLISTS WITHOUT USING HANDS
For cyclists, the Gemini integration represents a key advance in safety and comfort. The tool allows you to make consultations without having to hold your cell phone, helping you stay focused on the road.
Among the available functions are:
- Check estimated arrival time
- Send text messages by voice, such as:
“Send a message to Sarah saying I’ll be 10 minutes late.”
All this without letting go of the handlebars, which reduces distractions and improves the navigation experience.
GEMINI AVAILABILITY ON GOOGLE MAPS
Gemini navigation for pedestrians and cyclists is now available for iOS users, while its implementation on Android devices is being carried out gradually.
With this update, Google reinforces its commitment to artificial intelligence applied to urban mobility, making Google Maps an even more useful tool for those who actively move.
