After revealing some images showing updates to the interface, Google recently released the Android 16 QPR3 Beta 2.1 version and announced that Android 17 Beta will soon be available.
Android 16 QPR3 Beta 2.1 has been confirmed to be the latest version of this cycle, and Google is already preparing to start “the beta program for Android 17 Platform Release (26Q2)«.
This indicates that the Android 17 beta is almost ready for its official release.
It is important to mention that Google is releasing this beta a little later than the first beta of Android 16which was released at the end of January, specifically on the 24th.
In fact, Google has reported that all users who have the Android 16 QPR3 Beta 2.1 version installed on their Pixel device and remain in the Android Beta Program, They will automatically receive Beta 1 of Android 17.
And a crucial detail: It will not be possible to exit the beta program without deleting all data from the mobile until the “Android 17 beta cycle in June 2026” ends.
Another interesting fact is that, if everything goes as planned, Google would launch Android 17 in June.
Although it is not a surprise, given that it is expected, at least now we are certain that everything is on track for that month without significant setbacks that could delay its implementation.
Last year was similar after Google changed its strategyadvancing the launch of the Pixel from October, as it had been until two years ago, to August.
The reason? Coinciding with the same launch window as Apple and its new iPhones. A strategy that is giving results, since their phones manage to capture the attention of iPhone users looking for an alternative.
9to5Google mentions that if we do not want to update to the Android 17 beta, but we want to try the latest version of Android 16 that includes system improvements, we must follow the Google link to abandon the beta program and ignore or do not apply the OTA update.
This OTA update will have the “Downgrade” label, which is precisely the warning not to install it and thus avoid deleting mobile data, as long as we do not accept said update (we repeat it to avoid inconveniences).
We must wait for the launch of the public version of Android 16 QPR3 (CP1A), which is precisely the version with the new features for the Pixel and which will be released in March.
