The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharifdefended this Monday that the validity of the ceasefire reached last week between Iran and the United States persists despite the fruitless talks held this weekend in Islamabad to end the offensive.
“Today, the high the fire is still valid. While I speak to you, Every effort is being made to resolve outstanding issues.“, he declared in a televised speech addressed to the Council of Ministers.
As part of these efforts in the face of the stalemate in Islamabad, government sources confirmed that SHarif will travel to Saudi Arabia in the next 48 hours. As they detailed, Pakistan has raised its efforts “to a higher level”, ensuring that it maintains constant contact with both parties and open channels of dialogue.

Likewise, the sources also reported that the Government of Pin Akistan seeks to hold a second round of negotiations between the United States and Iran, with the aim of securing an extension of the ceasefire beyond April 22.
For its part, a American official said to Reuters this Monday that the dialogue between the United States and Iran continues and mentioned progress in attempts to reach an agreement.
“Historic moment”
Sharif wanted to defend the talks between Tehran and Washington despite the failure of the meeting, in his first statements after what he described as “historic moment”.
“If we look back through history – take the Oslo Accords, the Geneva Agreement, the Good Friday Agreement – it took months and sometimes years to end hostilities and establish peace.”
Sharif has highlighted in the thread that The Iranian and American delegations were negotiating “without interruption for 21 hours”ensuring that it was a direct negotiation. “It was the first time that the two delegations sat face to face. I am a witness to it,” he stated.
Likewise, he stressed that the conversations gave his country the opportunity to “turn the gathering clouds of war into lasting peace”an extreme that has not been fulfilled but that has not prevented the prime minister from highlighting “Pakistan’s sincere efforts” to mediate between Washington and Tehran.
In this sense, it has returned to highlight the work of the Foreign MinisterIshaq Dar, and the Chief of Army Staff, Asim Munirin particular the “wisdom” of the latter, to get both countries to accept a twelve-day truce last week.

In this sense, the two ministers addressed during the call the Five-point “Peace Initiative” raised by Beijing and Islamabad to lead diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the war and restoring stability in the area.
The proposal, announced at the end of March, seeks first an immediate ceasefire and an end to the fighting; which would be followed by the start of talks, guaranteeing the security of non-military objectives, as well as navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, and concludes with “safeguarding the primacy of the Charter of the United Nations.”
