
The Police of Oslocapital of Norwayhas reported that around 1:00 a.m. this Sunday a “strong explosion” at the main entrance of the United States embassy in the city, without the causes of the detonation having been revealed for the moment.
As detailed by the security force in a statement, “The police have extensive resources in the surroundings of the United States embassy. At approximately 1:00 a.m., a strong explosion was reported at the site. The police are in contact with the embassy and no injuries have been reported“.
The authorities have not yet specified who was behind the detonation or what type of device could have been used. “At the moment there is no information about what happened exactly or who could be involved,” concludes the police statement.
For his part, Oslo police response chief Michael Delmer explained to Norwegian broadcaster NRK that there could be some minor injuriesalthough for the moment they will avoid giving additional details. “The reason why we are not commenting on this at this time is that the investigation is at a very early stage. We need to clarify what it is about before providing information about it,” the police official insisted.
Witnesses cited by local media heard a powerful roar before a cloud of smoke would cover the area where the diplomatic representation is located.
