Kim Jong-un and his daughter test the new North Korean tank capable of intercepting drones and missiles: “It is not comparable”

Kim watched a tactical joint attack exercise with infantry troops and tank units on Thursday – the same day the joint US-South Korean drills concluded – at a base in Pyongyang, which featured drones and armored vehicles.

When the simulation started, various attack drones struck enemy positions, based on real-time reconnaissance data, while other attack units in the rear destroyed enemy drones. Subsequently, these soldiers broke in and occupied the enemy’s defensive lines and firing positions.

Various tests were carried out of the “active protection system” of a new main battle tank with the capacity to intercept anti-tank missiles and drones “100% effective”according to the agency KCNA. Kim assured that this weapon ““it is not comparable in the world” in terms of firepowermobility and defensive capabilities.

Military tensions

The North Korean military exercises took place in parallel to the last day of the annual joint Freedom Shield maneuvers between the US and South Korea, considered by Pyongyang invasion trials against their territory.

The Washington and Seoul maneuvers, in which about 18,000 troops participatedbegan on March 9 and took place amid speculation about a possible transfer of American Patriot anti-missile systems from South Korea to the Middle East, in the context of the US and Israel’s war against Iran.

Just one day after these joint exercises began, Kim Yo-jong, the North Korean leader’s influential sister, warned that they could have “terrible consequences.”

KCNA reported that Kim Jong-un supervised a test launch of cruise missiles from a destroyer on March 10 and that, four days later, the secretive regime carried out a test of “twelve ultra-precise multiple rocket launchers of 600 millimeters caliber.”
