Cuba kills four armed men after US incursion and issues sovereignty warning

The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, assured this Thursday that his country “does not attack or threaten.” However, it will respond with determination to any attempt to violate its sovereignty. After Cuban authorities thwarted an alleged armed incursion into territorial waters.

“The country will defend itself firmly against any terrorist and mercenary aggression,” the president wrote in his X account, one day after the operation in which a speedboat from the United States was intercepted.

CONFRESHMENT IN THE WATERS OF VILLA CLARA

According to information released by official media, the vessel approached up to one nautical mile northeast of the El Pino canal, in Falcones Cay, municipality of Corralillo, province of Villa Clara. When intercepted by border guard troops for identification, it opened fire on the Cuban unit, wounding the ship’s commander.

In the subsequent confrontation, four of the occupants were killed and six were injured. This, according to the report from the Ministry of the Interior.

The authorities assured that assault rifles, short weapons, homemade explosive devices – including Molotov cocktails -, bulletproof vests, telescopic sights and camouflage uniforms were seized from the boat.

RESEARCH IN PROCESS

The first investigations indicate that the ten people involved would be Cubans residing in the United States, several with a history of criminal and violent activity. So far, six have been fully identified, three remain under the verification process and one was reported deceased.

In addition, the arrest in Cuban territory of a person who was allegedly sent from the United States to facilitate the reception of the armed group and who, according to authorities, confessed his participation in the plan was reported.

POLITICAL MESSAGE AND INTERNATIONAL SUPPORT

Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla affirmed that the defense of the territory and national security “is an unavoidable duty.” He also recalled that the island has faced multiple infiltrations since 1959, resulting in casualties and material damage.

From Moscow, the Kremlin supported the actions of the Cuban forces by pointing out that the border guards “did what they had to do.” In a statement that adds a geopolitical component to the incident.

LATENT TENSION

Although Washington has not officially commented on the incident, the episode occurs in a context of tense relations and revives historical accusations of interference and covert actions against the Cuban government.

Analysts warn that, regardless of the outcome of the confrontation, the incident could escalate on a diplomatic level if the origin and motivations of the armed group are confirmed.

The investigation continues while Havana reinforces the message that it will not tolerate actions that it considers threats to its internal stability.
