Exciting new features for Australia's top hiking website

Posted on 24.04.2018

Darren Edwards, founder of Trail Hiking Australia, is excited to announce the launch of two new and exciting features for his site, www.trailhiking.co.au. The free-to-use site, which has been developed as a non-commercial hobby, was launched in February 2016 and since that time has gone from strength-to-strength. The site provides powerful, Australia-wide, search tools so that anyone looking trails can filter based on state, destination, distance, duration, style, grade or a combination of these categories.

www.trailhiking.com.au arose out of the enthusiasm of a passionate adventurer, Darren Edwards, who is dedicated to the awareness, promotion, growth and long term sustainable survival of the Australian bushwalking and hiking communities. What started as a blog has turned into a serious online resource for the outdoor adventurer. “I wanted to produce information that would allow hikers, bushwalkers and trail runners to easily find a trail and head outdoors with the preparedness and knowledge to return safely. I am excited that the site has now gone well beyond that and with the launch of these new features I am hoping that it will further assist the broad community of adventurers out there.” Edwards Said.

www.trailhiking.com.au is a comprehensive, non-commercial, free-to-use online tool that provides the outdoor adventurer with detailed information on over 2,300 dedicated hiking trails across Australia.

NEW FEATURE – Favourite and Completed Hikes

This new feature provides every site user with a personalised list-building tool. Users can quickly and easily add any hike to their personalised list of favourites and then mark them as complete once they have experienced that trail. All with a click of a button. Every hike on the site displays a numeric reference, indicating how many people have favourited or completed that hike. The number changes dynamically as users add or remove hikes.

NEW FEATURE – Hikes Management Platform

The Trail Hiking Australia Hike Management Platform allows site users to easily organise a hike for others to attend. If you aren’t keen on organising you can join any of the upcoming hikes, organised by other members of our community.

To organise a hike, you simply access any of the 2,300+ trails on the site. Find one that you are interested in organising then, click the green ‘Organise this Hike’ button. This will open the event submission page where most information will be pre-populated for you from the hike you have selected. Complete the required information and submit your hike.

To join an upcoming hike, you can search the events by ‘Photo, Map or Calendar’ then click RSVP to attend. All hikes are colour coded and graded based on the Australian Walking Track Grading System, making it easier to join a hike, suited to your level of experience.

“I am dedicated to building a community that supports getting people outside and into the wilderness, safely. I am super excited about this new feature as it allows the community to discover like-minded people to hit the trail with. If you are new to hiking, joining an upcoming hike is a great place to start.” Edwards Said.

If you are into hiking, bushwalking, trail running, or mountain bike riding then head on over to www.trailhiking.com.au. There really is something for everyone. If you are new to hiking/buskwalking Darren offers advice on how to prepare yourself for the trail, fall in love with the environment and learn the skills to return safely. If you are more experienced, you will find trails that take you into the remotest areas of the country for a true adventure.

Head on over to www.trailhiking.com.au, show your support and discover your next adventure.
