Mt Joyce Confirmed for 2017 Downhill Champs.

Date and venue confirmed for the 2017 Downhill National Championships.

Posted on 27.03.2017

Mountain Bike Australia (MTBA) has today confirmed the date and venue for the 2017 Downhill National Championships.

After, postponing the downhill component of the recent combined XCO/DHI/ OT National Championships at Canungra due to transport safety concerns because of extreme weather conditions, MTBA has chosen to hold the event at Mt Joyce on the 13-14th of May.

MTBA CEO Shane Coppin said cancelling the downhill event was a very difficult decision, but hopes riders will support the new date and venue.

“I have had discussions with a number of stakeholders about certain locations and similar risks posed should wet conditions arise again” Mr Coppin remarked.

“Despite the reputation of the Canungra downhill course, it is not possible to complete works to completely weather-proof the shuttle roads in time for the re-scheduled race.”

“Mt Joyce has been selected as the best weather-proof location in the region and we are pleased to co-ordinate the event as part of the D’Aguilar Range Cycling Club’s round of the SEQDH Series.”

MTBA would like to thank Straight To Hell DHI Club for their tireless efforts in helping with the 2017 National Championships at Canungra.

The event will officially be conducted over the Saturday and Sunday, however an optional ‘free’ practice day will be held on Friday.

MTBA will be offering a ‘Junior Rider Support Program’ for those wishing to attend and who may be looking at travelling alone. Head here for all the information.
