Draft Australian Adventure Activity Standards for Bushwalking and Camping released for public consultation

Posted on 02.05.2017

The draft standards for Bushwalking and Camping for the Australian Adventure Activity Standards (Australian AAS) has just been released for public comment. All members of the outdoors community can have their say on both of these activity standards by visiting yoursay.australianaas.org.au/bushwalking-camping.

The draft standards will be available to download or readable online via the website. Feedback submissions can be lodged via the website’s submission forms. These include general impressions, as well the opportunity to provide detailed and specific feedback on any section or piece of content. Feedback submissions will close at 9.00am (AEST) on 29 May 2017.

The Australian AAS will provide a best practice framework for safe and responsible planning and delivery of a wide range of outdoor adventure activities throughout Australia. They will improve community and participant outdoor experiences, while continuing to improve safety standards. Development of the Australian AAS will involve combining and streamlining the current state standards to reduce red tape and ensure consistency for organisations that work across state borders.

Peak bodies collaborating on the project include The Outdoor Council of Australia, Outdoors WA, Queensland Outdoor Recreation Federation, Recreation SA, Outdoor NSW and Outdoors Victoria, together with relevant government agencies in Tasmania, Australian Capital Territory and Northern Territory.
