Community to have their say on Mackay Waterfront PDA
The transformation of Mackay’s city centre and surrounding waterfront precincts is a step closer, with public consultation open for the proposed development scheme.

Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning, Cameron Dick encouraged the community to help shape the vision for the job-creating and lifestyle-boosting revitalisation.

“Renewal of these popular areas will significantly boost Mackay’s economy, identity and community connections, while delivering more jobs for the city,” Mr Dick said.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for locals to provide their input and help Mackay Regional Council develop its plan to transform the city’s waterfronts and CBD.”

Member for Mackay Julieanne Gilbert said the proposed development scheme would result in a diverse mix of activities and attractions arriving in the city.

“What we’re going to see emerge from this process is a new-look Mackay that entices people with its energy and colour,” Ms Gilbert said.

“Public consultation gives the community an opportunity to have their say about the proposed plans for the 172-hectare priority development area (PDA), and I encourage all locals to provide feedback as it’s of great value to the decision-making process.”

Mackay Mayor Greg Williamson said he was pleased the state government had been so responsive and collaborative in the preparation of the proposed development scheme.

“The scheme sets out a long-term vision for new private sector development, and with it jobs and business activity to support the next stage of growth for the city,” Mr Williamson said.

“The proposed development scheme provides us with a framework for land use, infrastructure planning and development in the area, and delivers certainty to developers, local government, state agencies and the wider community about the type and form of development that can occur.

“The Mackay Waterfront PDA consists of five distinct precincts: Mackay City Centre, Riverside, Enterprise, Queens Park and Beachside.

“Each precinct offers unique attributes and redevelopment opportunities specific to their location, and business, tourism, retail, residential and recreational space are all provided for within the PDA.”

Interested parties are invited to make submissions on the proposed development scheme to Mackay Regional Council by Wednesday 19 December 2018.
