Calling for nominations to help draft activity Australian AAS

Posted on 13.12.2016

The Australian Adventure Activity Standards (Australian AAS) Steering Committee is now seeking to form three separate Technical Working Groups (TWG) to draft the activity specific AAS for:

  • Horse trail riding
  • Climbing and abseiling
  • Mountain biking and bicycle touring

Nominations are now being sort from people with broad expertise and experience in any of these activities. Experience in leadership of the particular activity with dependent participants is essential.

To nominate complete the online form  by  9.00am (AEDT) 23rd Jan 2017.

The Australian Adventure Activity Standards (AAAS) detail good practice guidelines for conducting outdoor adventure activities with dependent participants. This includes managing risk and safety and providing principles for appropriate behaviours to safeguard environmental and cultural heritage. The AAS are a voluntary standard.

To clarify the AAAS are aimed at activities with “dependent participants” i.e. “a person owed a duty of care by the activity provider and who is reliant upon the activity leaders for supervision, guidance or instruction to support participation in an activity.”
